Phố Wall giảm phiên thứ 2 liên tiếp

Chứng khoán Mỹ tiếp tục giảm điểm vào ngày thứ Năm (17/11) và lợi suất trái phiếu Mỹ tăng, khi các quan chức Cục Dự trữ Liên bang Mỹ (Fed) báo hiệu chiến dịch nâng lãi suất còn lâu mới kết thúc.

Kết thúc phiên giao dịch ngày thứ Năm, chỉ số Dow Jones hạ 7.51 điểm (tương đương 0.02%) xuống 33,546.32 điểm, sau khi giảm tới 314 điểm trong phiên. Chỉ số Nasdaq Composite mất 0.31% còn 3,946.56 điểm. Chỉ số Nasdaq Composite lùi 0.35% xuống 11,144.96 điểm.

Chứng khoán Mỹ phục hồi từ mức đáy ghi nhận vào đầu phiên khi cổ phiếu Cisco Systems vọt gần 5%. Công ty thiết bị mạng đã có báo cáo quý tài chính đầu tiên vượt kỳ vọng và đưa ra triển vọng lạc quan. Các cổ phiếu công nghệ khác như Apple và Intel cũng tăng.

Nhà đầu tư đã cân nhắc những nhận định từ Chủ tịch Fed khu vực St. Louis, James Bullard, phát biểu vào ngày thứ Năm rằng: “Lãi suất vẫn chưa nằm trong vùng có thể được xem là đủ hạn chế”.

“Sự thay đổi trong lập trường chính sách tiền tệ dường như chỉ có tác động hạn chế đối với lạm phát quan sát được, nhưng giá cả thị trường cho thấy lạm phát dự kiến sẽ giảm vào năm 2023”, ông Bullard nói thêm.

Lợi suất trái phiếu Chính phủ Mỹ kỳ hạn 2 năm nhạy cảm với chính sách đã tăng lên 4.45% vào ngày thứ Năm, làm gia tăng lo ngại lãi suất cao hơn sẽ khiến nền kinh tế rơi vào suy thoái.

Chủ tịch Fed khu vực Kansas, Esther George, nói với Wall Street Journal vào ngày thứ Tư (16/11) rằng: “Tôi đang xem xét thị trường lao động vốn quá thắt chặt, tôi không biết làm thế nào bạn có thể tiếp tục giảm mức lạm phát này xuống mà không làm chậm lại thực sự nền kinh tế, và có thể chúng ta phải thậm chí phải thu hẹp nền kinh tế để đạt được điều đó”.

Các cổ phiếu dễ bị ảnh hưởng bởi suy thoái kinh tế nằm trong số những cổ phiếu giảm giá mạnh nhất thuộc S&P 500. Nhóm cổ phiếu nguyên vật liệu giảm, cũng như những cổ phiếu hàng tiêu dùng không thiết yếu.
